Nigerians must keep thriving to make the Nation place for all.

Our challenges are enormous and they require an enormous sacrifice from all and sundry to solve them. — Misilli

At a time when Nigerians all over the world celebrates independence from the colonial leadership — I want to use this important festive season with great history to convey to the people of Nigeria and charge them to use the time to reflect on some of the lingering problems that the Nation has experienced since 1960s and find a workable solutions for sustainable development.

We should know that — It’s our collective responsibility as progressive citizens and development enthusiasts to always advocate for good governance plush furnishing Government with constructive criticism for the development of our country.

We must not allow anything to disrupts the hard-fought earned Peace & Unity of our country.

Many people have dead just to maintain this Peace & Unity, We should immortalize their souls by living peacefully and love With one another. In spite of our challenges, We’ve enjoyed giants stride of development as United Citizens and this reason alone, must make us live in harmony in order to actualize many more in the future. Together we can achieve more.

While many people are lamenting that — There is nothing to celebrate, I respect their constitutional rights for freedom of expression and I equally condemned their assertion that we shouldn’t celebrate this independence. Having gotten an independence is a thing of joy and we must Not deny the fact that our fallen heroes fought well for our liberation and we must thank them for their respective sacrifices.

Now that, We are enjoying more than half a century of freedom and as a sovereign country. We must keep thriving to make our nation place for all.

There is indeed a long way to go, the development we all year for — will indeed take longer time before it’s being actualized and With Persistent, Hard work, Team Work Determination and Patience — One day, We would all look back and say “Yes, We’ve Made It”.

Our challenges are enormous and they require an enormous sacrifice from all and sundry to solve them.

Compatriots, Let’s not loose hope in our country, let’s collectively look at how we’ve started, what we’ve been through, Where we are and Where we intend to be in the future.

You and I shall not run away from from the challenges our country faced, We must develop a courage to face them till we overcome them to Standstill.

We must thank God that a high significant percentage of our problems are Man made and Man made problems can easily be solved when We changed the mindset. Therefore, let’s change the way we perceive, associate, Judge, handle the situation and solve the problem for ourselves. Remember Government alone can not do it, They need our assistance and we must play our collective parts.

Let me make an excerpts from some fellow countrymen on this important occasion of independence

“As a nation, we are better together than we are apart. Hence, we must be wary of those who hide under religion, politics, tribe and sundry groupings to turn us against one another”. — Lanre Issa Onilu

“We must change our lawless habits, our attitude to public office and public trust… simply put, to bring about change, we must change ourselves by being law-abiding citizens.” — MBuhari

“Despite our perceived differences, our strength and progress depend on our ability to harness our rich diversity,” — Lanre Issa Onilu

“Our freedom fighters endured countless suffering to give Nigeria their freedom. It’s not just a day of celebration, but also to remember our heroes passed.” Sen Elisha Abbo

“In the truest sense, freedom cannot be bestowed; it must be

achieved. It is day to pay salute to all those who became the reason of this land. Happy Independence.” — Sen Saidu Ahmad Alkali

Dear Comrades, I join you to celebrate this important moment #NigeriaAt59 and I pray God Almighty to continue blessing Nigeria with pious leaders.

I celebrate Nigeria @59 and I believe in Nigeria for all.

God bless Federal Republic of Nigeria

100 DAYS : A TALE OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND GOOD GOVERNANCE IN GOMBE STATE — Misilli

In as much as politics is a powerful tool for governance, good governance must not be played with politics, at least, not by any government that hopes to make a difference in the lives of those that elected it to serve them.

This is an understanding that the Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has been able to get a grasp of, as evident in achievements recorded in his name in just 100 days of being in office.

Against all odds, Governor Inuwa Yahaya has made tremendous impact in the administration of Gombe State – breaking new grounds in development, changing the narrative in governance, challenging the status quo of corruption – as well as engineering a path towards righting the wrongs of the past.

Gov. Inuwa Yahaya has raised the bar in governance in all sectors of government by being responsive to the responsibilities assigned to him via the polls. From agriculture to education, health to water supply, infrastructural development to economic resuscitation, rural road networking to urban beautification, even the environment is going green with the 3Gs initiative to plant four million trees to mitigate the impact of desertification. In all these, if Gov. Yahaya was voted for only a 100-day tenure, he would rightly be judged to have delivered on his mandate.

Despite meeting an empty fertilizer warehouse, Gov. Inuwa Yahaya was able to avert a major food crisis in the state and even Nigeria; because Gombe has a national agricultural distribution chain, by securing fertilizers for sales and distribution at a record subsidized rate to farmers across the 11 local government areas. A look at what was left of the agricultural sector before the coming of Inuwa and the kind of quick-fix measures taken by His Excellency, Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of the All Progressives Congress shows that election to the highly coveted office of Gombe State Governor is not just timely, but by every aspect, a salvation to Gombawas.

For the first time in eight years, just within a short span of a 100 days, Gombawas now understand that leadership is about solving problems based on the priorities of the people and not about using state resources to create bigger problems. The present governor has displayed a crystal understanding of clear and focused approach to problem-solving and has thus, been able to dodge banana peels such as misplaced priorities, hasty debts accumulation, as well as other issues typical of past the administration.

Gov. Inuwa has also been able to make it glaring to all that he had a clear action plan for implementation once he took over the reins of governance in Gombe State as evident in his swift responses to issues affecting the people, especially in areas where they had sought help in time past.

Before the arrival of Inuwa ‘gida gida’, water supply was seen by the people as a responsibility that the state government had relinquished to the them to handle. As we all know, Gombe State is amongst the many states experiencing acute water shortage. But that narrative is fast changing because Gov. Inuwa Yahaya, as part of his ground breaking package, has ordered immediate water supply in that regard, backing it up with a release of over a N110 million for reticulations and repairs to boost water supply. He made a further bold step to secure the $2.3 million World Bank water project grant by agreeing to pay the counterpart funding of 10 per cent of the project cost. This is the same project that was left to waste by the previous administration in spite of the hardship faced by the people with regards to water supply.

In the health sector, Gov. Yahaya, having conducted a tour of major health centres in the state, was devastated by the gross decay and extent of neglect of facilities in the health sector.

It is said that, ‘One of the tragedies of leadership is the fact that when a leader fails; he faileth not himself or just the people but generations yet unborn’. In that light, Gov. Inuwa Yahaya, after a thorough assessment of the critical state of the health sector, has taken up the challenge to ensure that the life of every citizen and visitor is saved on arrival at any health centre in the state.

In line with this, therefore, Gov. Inuwa Yahaya flagged off the scale up of the Nigeria State Health Investment Project (N-SHIP) in two Local Government Areas of Akko and Billiri, in addition to the four benefitting Local Government Areas in the state. Gombe state Government and N-SHIP have jointly supported the project with the sum of N118million for the 38 health facilities. The State Government has also indicated readiness to key into the Federal Government’s healthcare provision and funds by establishing a state insurance scheme to provide financial protection to the people against outrageous health expenditure. Also, worried by the plight of the malnourished children in the state and their neglect by the previous administration, Governor Inuwa Yahaya has committed the state’s counterpart funding to the nutrition project to enable the state access the ANRiN funds for nutrition intervention.

To underscore his seriousness in confronting the challenges of the health sector, the Governor has constituted a Taskforce to conduct a quick needs assessment of infrastructural status of the state specialist hospital and recommend improvements needed for the facility to attain the status of its name.

It is no longer news that Inuwa Yahaya has settled some of the outstanding debts in the health sector and has vowed to pilot and champion the wild polio eradication campaign in the North-eastern part of the country. More so, the state’s partnership with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, as well as UNICEF, is yielding positive results, especially in the area of Maternal, Newborn and Child Health.
The Governor has also secured UNICEF’s commitment to support the state in revitalizing 1 PHC in every ward of Kwami LGA and strenthening MNCH activities in the state. The state has also entered into partnership with US based ProjectCure to supply state of the art equipment to all the 23 Secondary Health facilities in the state. This is how leadership should be driven to secure the lives of generations by ensuring that all newborns are welcomed to our world without threat to their lives.

It is a well known fact that over 70 percent of the population of the state engage in agriculture and that makes Gombe an agrarian state with a population of over 3 million people and an arable land of 6, 099 square kilometres. Having this at the back of his mind, Gov. Inuwa Yahaya has initiated a rural road network programme to connect the farmers in the rural areas to markets where they can sell their produce. This will go a long way in revamping and resuscitating the economic activities that had remained moribund as a result of the failure of the immediate past administration to tap or bridge the gap between the farmers and the markets.
Already, His Excellency has re-mobilized contractors handling 10 different roads that were hitherto abandoned to site, committing over 3.1 billion Naira including to the following road projects in order to link up and open up communities:
1. Construction of Gona – Garko – Kalshingi with spur to maidugu road to Messrs EEC Int’l Ltd

2. Dualization of 25km of the Bauchi -Gombe highway roads to Messrs Triacta Nig Ltd which was moving at snail speed before the coming of Governor Yahaya, who now committed resources to ensure speedy completion of the project.

3. Construction works at Jekadafari North IFO TRIACTA NIG LTD

4. Construction works at Malam Inna-Titi -kurba road with spur to Kundulum and Arawa IFO Tinka Point LTD and which will link up 4 local Government areas of Gombe, Akko Kwami and Yamaltu Deba.

5. Construction of Gona – Garko – Kalshingi with spur to maidugu road to Messrs E E C Int’l Ltd

6. Construction of Boltongo-Nono-Deba with spur to Garin malami to Messrs E E C Int’l Ltd

7. Provision of& Installation of street lights to Messrs Digibits control Nig Ltd

8. Construction of Billiri-Gujuba-kamo_awak

9. Operation and maintenance of Gombe Airport by JBI Tech

10. Construction works for Dukku-kalam-Jamari-dokoro road ifo Builders Engineering ltd

11. Construction works for Dukku-kalam-Jamari-dokoro road ifo Builders Engineering ltd
All the above roads project suffered years of abandonment either as a result of lack of payment of mobilization fees to the contractors or outright lack of political will by the previous administration to execute them. But thank God, with Governor Inuwa Yahaya, succour has come to the people.

At a time when the importance of education is no longer a sermon to be preached in any social setting in view of its conspicuous relevance in accelerating grassroots development, serving as a panacea to help children realize their dreams and visions as well as enhancing peaceful co-existence, Gombe students in WAEC and NECO examinations have for three years in a row, placed 34th position with corresponding acute shortage of teachers, a dearth of infrastructure and a pupil-toilet ratio of over 1000:1 in Gombe metropolis. However, just within days in office, Gov. Inuwa has taken action to prove that the present administration means well for the sector. It is no gimmick. In this regard, the governor has been consulting with relevant local and international stakeholdres, wooing massive investment to address the unpleasant gifts bequeathed to it by poor administrators. He has been able to so far attract massive interests from donor agencies and development partners especially with his commitment to providing the counterpart funds. Notable among them are the securing of N3Billion from UBEC, TETFUND Project, $6Milion project – tagged – BESDA – Better Education Service Delivery for All, a World Bank and Federal Government programme to reduce the over 450, 000 out-of-school children and improve literacy level in the state. The BESDA project has already been launched by the Governor and already the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba along side UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi have visited Governor Inuwa Yahaya to sho appreciate for his excellency’s commitment in to revamp the education sector; $13Million USAID and AUN – SENSE grant for capacity building of 100 education Managers and 5,000 primary school Teachers as well as improve school system. This is a huge sigh of relief for the future.

For long, Gombe State alongside other 10 states, was listed as part of the 11 frontline states vis-à-vis desertification past administrations refused to release counterpart funds toward mitigating such environmental crisis. But alas! The change governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has released the state counterpart contribution of N500Million to access funds for gully erosion control under the Nigeria Erosion Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP), a World Bank project. He took the environmental cake for icing by initiating the 3Gs (Gombe Goes Green) project to plant 4million tree seedlings in four years. The project has already been launched with 27, 000 youths being employed to nurse and watch over the trees.

Indeed Gov. Inuwa Yahaya has started on a bright note and the people of Gombe could not have wished for a better party and personality. His commitment to work is awesome. He has zero tolerance for corruption. Inuwa is a man that is not bankrupt in integrity at a time when the integrity of many was in short supply. Gombe now has a dependable Governor in Inuwa Yahaya, an accountability personified.

Highest Officer in the National Assembly shouldn’t Be Returned As A Member

I am advocating for any “Senator, Speaker” that heads the legislation chamber for a complete tenure, shouldn’t be returned as a legislator again! The new law should provide a section where it read clearly that “any lawmaker that served in the capacity of “Senate President” or “Speaker of the House of Representatives” is not eligible to seek for reelection for another term, due to uncertain or high probability of his reelection to his previous position!

It sounded weird for a legislator that served in the highest position in a particular institution to comeback as a mere follow member of that institution where he has already headed the hallowed chamber as an officer with high rank!

I therefore advocate for “if you served as Senate President or Speaker of the House” that privileged will be end of your career as a legislator of the “Federal Republic of Nigeria!

(A Case Study of Former Senator – David Mark and RT. Yakubu Dogara Member Representing -Tafawa Balewa, Bogoro Constituency)

David Mark served as SP (2007-2015) and returned elected as a follow member (2015-2019) while Yakubu Dogara Served as a Speaker (2015-2019), he is now going to serve for another four years (2019-2023) as a follow member in the same institution that he has headed!

Bola Ahmed Tinubu and The Nigerian Youths (To Be A Good Leader, Learn How To Follow)

What could possibly be the problem of some Nigerian Youths with “Bola Ahmed Tinubu”. the level at which some youths developed hatred against the latter is worrisome and it might make one to ask. What’s really the problem between the two party! Is it because the youths doesn’t have the respect for him or they don’t know where or how to voice out their grievances so as to continue agitating their political liberation! They want to snatch the power from old men, instead of them to focus on the right path but ended up being a an aberrant from the cause which at the end will not yield to any positive impact towards the con texture of their agitation.

I’m amazed on how some Nigerian Youths whom over decades claiming to be an aspiring or emerging leaders failed the comprehend one important concept in leadership, off course there are certain numerous set of ladders that you must followed in order to become a good leader! One key step is, (Learning How To Follow). which is the basis of why this article emanated from.

Tinubu was a Senator, two consecutive term Governor in 2nd most populous state in Nigeria (Lagos State), anointed 2 Past and 1 Serving Governor in same state, anointed Governors in other states, forefront in the emergence of an incumbent President, Muhammad Buhari. Installed two times Vice president. now President of the Senate and Speaker of the 9th Assembly respectively – among his loyal boys, some are serving and former Governors, Senators, Members HoRs, DGs, Directors, chairmen among others!

He has build a complete empire which will take other Nigerians — more especially youths whom are champion in his political will objection, 15-20 years of hard-work, mentor-ship, dedication and service to build. in fact, not everybody has more especially those that heads the countries mot exalted position build an empire the way he did.

In his immediate community he’s a Jagaban, a father, role model, stakeholder, guardian and mentor to many. He’s the most influential person in the whole of yoruba land. He is a successful man in almost all spheres of life! So why fighting the already lost battle?

He’s currently holding the title of a “Party Leader” of an incumbent administration. His influence is doubling day-by-day. A person with such reputable recognition not only in Nigeria but all over the world shouldn’t be take for granted but to my greatest dismay some of the Nigerian youths, whom a significant number of them are out of school, the luckiest are those whom have obtained a first degree knowledge while some are still in the university, some are not even enroll in the university but they’d opportune to buy a smartphone and come to “Social Media” and be throwing an insult to this gentleman, with the sole aim of snatching the mantle of leadership of this country from old ages- Never.

Nigerian youths should stand up and be ready to contribute their quota immensely by serving tirelessly in developing the future of this country! —

You cannot be in the helm of running the affairs of this country by sitting in a house and be attacking past leaders. The earlier we stop talking or attributing their failures as a major hinder to our progress, the higher we go, we still have time to grow Nigeria so as to compete with its peers!

Let’s all join hands to build a better and prosperous Nigeria. We can only achieve that by suspending all the levels of enmity and rivalry among ourselves!

We all have role to play and we’ll someday become the leaders of this country, posterity will equally judge us by our actions. so get ready to change the narrative

Therefore, Nigerian youth should stop envying Bola Ahmed Tinubu and come up with a better initiatives to develop and move the nation to the Next Level of development!

Farewell Dankwambo

Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo’s Tenure is a Success, it’s hard to bid him Farewell indeed!

I just want take this moment and appreciate Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo PhD, OON for his immense contributions and relentless service to the good people of Gombe State. In spite of our different political ideologies, but i must not deny the facts of sharing some common affiliation, being a leader of the state and certainly an enthusiast who brought an astonishing development.

Human beings generally have their own imperfection, they differ in perception and comprehension of things. in view of this, I have no reason whatsoever not to excuse you for your imperfection. “Responsible leaders are those whose give room in listening to peoples’ agitation in order to run a transparent and responsive leadership that concern with its principals.

Sometimes we disagree in some of your policies not because we have something personal against you – certainly not, but because of the yearning of our people, However, we equally applauded you in some areas where you excel, precisely in the areas of Infrastructural development, Education revival and running a free-harassment Government in the state and lots more.

However, you paved way for constructive criticism for all the people of Gombe state, more especially “Advocates for Good Governance and All the development enthusiasts in the state”.

You have proven to be true democrat whom run an inclusive governance.
Power is indeed a transient, no leader has ever been nor retained a political position forever, it’s a continuous process. As such you exercise your functions delegated to you to the best of your ability and posterity will surely judge and remember you as one of the liberators of the state.

Your name has been marked on the long-lasting legacies you left in which Gombawa will forever cherishes. At this time, when you’re on the verge of vacating the office, I felt it imperativeness to congratulate and wish you well in all your future ramifications. We didn’t expect you to be 100% perfect but i am assuring you that, your administration is a success.

I am Wishing You All The Best In Your Future Endeavors.

What is the Islamic perspective on ego?

In the Name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

What is the Quran’s perspective on ego?
[Quran 2:54] Recall that Moses said to his people, “O my people, you have wronged your souls by worshiping the calf. You must repent to your Creator. You shall kill your egos. This is better for you in the sight of your Creator.” He did redeem you. He is the Redeemer, Most Merciful.

What is this thing called “ego” which God advises us to kill? We all have a feeling of what it is, but Western culture has confused the issue for us. The dictionary definition of ego is almost useless, perhaps even harmful:

The thinking, feeling and acting self that is conscious of itself and aware of its distinction from the selves of others and from the objects of its thought and other operations.

That sounds harmless enough, doesn’t it? But is it really? Interestingly, even the dictionary suggests the Quranic truth. The word “distinction” is the key here. The very word implies that some are better than others, and thus should be followed in preference to others. But the messengers are just vehicles for God’s guidance, and it is that guidance we must follow, not the individuals themselves. In the same way, making a distinction between others and ourselves implies that one or the other is inherently better. Yet we know that the only thing which distinguishes the people is righteousness:

O people, we created you from the same male and female, and rendered you distinct peoples and tribes, that you may recognize one another. The best among you in the sight of God is the most righteous. God is Omniscient, Cognizant (49:13).

And even righteousness comes from God alone:

[Quran 74:56] They cannot take heed against God’s will. He is the source of righteousness; He is the source of forgiveness.

Our ego directs us to make distinction among our self and others, making us better than them in our own eyes. It is also the piece that makes us feel that we have some power, control or influence over things. It is the piece that gives importance to our personal opinions, to our grudges, to our desires.

The ego is that piece which got us into trouble in the first place when we did not stand up for God’s absolute power during the heavenly feud! It is because of it that we are going through this life—the make-up test.

The Quran gives us examples of the result of following our egos rather than killing them. It teaches us that it was ego that provoked Adam’s son Cain into murdering his brother Abel (5:30). Through the example of the governor’s wife who had tempted Joseph it teaches us that “the self is an advocate of vice” (12:53).

Following our ego puts us in danger of being covered by the following verse:

[Quran 47:14] Are those enlightened by their Lord the same as those whose evil works are adorned in their eyes, and they follow their own opinions?

Following our ego causes us to be arrogant to the extent of rejecting God’s messengers:

[Quran 2:87] …Is it not a fact that every time a messenger went to you with anything you disliked, your ego caused you to be arrogant? Some of them you rejected, and some of them you killed.

Finally, we are given the example of David whose repentance was reinforced with God’s teaching to

[Quran 38:26] …rule among the people equitably, and do not follow your personal opinion, lest it diverts you from the way of God”

Humility is antithesis of ego. Its importance is emphasized throughout the scriptures. (See also 17:37 and 25:63):

[Quran 31:18-19] You shall not treat the people with arrogance, nor shall you roam the earth proudly. God does not like the arrogant showoffs “Walk humbly and lower your voice – the ugliest voice is the donkey’s voice.”

Man’s pride causes his humiliation, but he who is humble of spirit obtains honor. (Proverbs 29 verse 23)

God teaches us that the ego can become an idol and the consequences can be detrimental for our salvation. Those who idolize their selves or egos may be sent astray by God, despite the knowledge they acquired:

[Quran 25:43] Have you seen the one whose god is his own ego? Will you be his advocate?

[Quran 45:23] Have you noted the one whose god is his ego? Consequently, God sends him astray, despite his knowledge, seals his hearing and his mind, and places a veil on his eyes. Who then can guide him, after such a decision by God? Would you not take heed?

How do we go about killing our egos? God gives us many means of working at this. For example, advice has been given to us to use criticism from someone else to kill the ego. Even if it was not correct, you have used it constructively. (Easier said than done though!) Every time we make a mistake, then repent and try to make amends, we are killing our ego. Every time we take ourselves to task for not being as eager to work righteousness, for not being straightforward, for backsliding, for falling into gossip or vain talk, we are killing our ego.

Sadly, the ego is like a hearty weed. Just when you think you have it licked, it sprouts right back up again. We must remember that God is the only one who really can do anything—including killing our ego. However, it is us who must make the initial decision to improve ourselves:

[Quran 13:11] …God does not change the condition of any people unless they themselves make the decision to change…

May Allah (swt)  Protect our soul from ego, Amin.
